Common types of motor accidents

Car accidents can happen at any time. Studies show that most people are involved in car accidents when they are less than five kilometers from home. There are many potential causes of a car accident: speeding, traffic gridlock, negligence, recklessness, and unsafe driving are just a few. A car wreck can also occur where you may least expect it: on side streets and in parking lots. However, there is some good news to report after you have been in a collision that directly relates to how you’re going to have your damages repaired. At Pfaff Autoworks in Vaughan, ON, we are in the business of providing high-end certified collision repair for our client’s vehicles. We constantly see vehicles with various types of damage after a collision, and more often than not, we are able to restore those vehicles back to their pre-collision condition. In this blog, we share some information about some common types of motor vehicle accidents, and the damage they can create.

Vehicle rollover

These particular types of crashes are complex and violent in nature. More than any other type of crash, rollovers reflect the interaction of the driver, road, vehicle, and environmental factors. Although a vehicle’s type has a significant role in the accident, so does driver behavior and road and environmental conditions. The damage to your vehicle in the result of a rollover is usually severe.

Single car accident

This is a type of road traffic accident in which only one vehicle is involved. A majority of these types of crashes are run-off-road collisions, collisions with fallen debris, rollovers, and collisions with animals. These types of vehicle collisions can leave your car with minor to severe damage depending on the seriousness of the collision. Damages can be isolated to a certain part of the vehicle or to numerous areas of the vehicle.

Rear-end collision

A traffic accident where a vehicle crashes into the vehicle in front of it. These are usually due to driver inattention or distraction, tailgating, panic stops, and reduced traction due to irregular road conditions caused by weather. The damages to your vehicle as a result of a rear-end collision can also be minor or severe depending on how hard the impact is, and if you hit something in front of you as well. Damage to the rear of the vehicle is guaranteed and additional damage to the front of the vehicle is common.

Side-impact collision

These accidents, also known as broadside or T-bone collisions, are where the side of one or more vehicles is impacted. These crashes commonly occur at intersections, parking lots, and when two vehicles pass on a roadway. Damages to your vehicle in a side-impact collision can vary depending on how hard you have been hit, and if you have hit other things due to the impact.

Head-on collision

This type of accident is when the front ends of two vehicles hit each other in opposite directions. Head-on collisions are often fatal road traffic accidents. Being aware of traffic signs, street conditions, and staying in your lane play a critical role in avoiding these types of accidents. Damages to your vehicle after a head-on collision will usually be extensive.
